Sixt has provided a list below on how many penalty points you can incur on your driver’s licence for speeding and some other information.
- The minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and 3 points on your license.
- By law, you should receive notification of your prosecution within 14 days of the date that the speeding offence occurred.
- If you are within 2 years passing your driving test your driving license will be revoked if you receive 6 or more points.
Most speeding offences result in the driver receiving 3-6 points and depends on where the offence occurred, how fast you are travelling and your previous record.
There are possible ways to pay speeding fines online if you are in England or Wales otherwise payment methods will be stated on the ticket.
If the speeding offence that you have committed is minor you can sometimes avoid getting points on your license if the police give you the option of going on a speed awareness course. You have the option of attending a speed awareness course depending on the circumstance and you haven’t attended one in min. 3 years.
If you protest the ticket you will plead non-guilty and have to appear in court. This can result in a max. £1000 fine or £2500 if you were on a motorway (if found guilty).
If you get 12 or more points on your license in a 3 year period then you will have your licence revoked. You can also receive a ban depending on how much you have driven above the speeding limit.
