A one way car rental gives you the freedom of picking up a car in one location, and dropping it off in another, and can even extend across country and city borders. Here at Sixt we allow this service, but there are rules, location restrictions and sometimes fees in place. In this article, we will share with you all you need to know before you book your one way car.
What is a one way rental?
A one way rental is when you pick up a car in one destination, and drop it off at another branch. This could take place between two stations within the same city, but could also happen across multiple cities, and even countries.
Can I hire a car one way for my journey?
Whereas at Sixt we offer a flexible amount of one way routes, it may not always be possible due to restrictions caused by insurance policies and cross-border laws. To determine whether a one way journey is available from Sixt, head to the sixt.co.uk homepage, enter your desired pick up location and select “Change drop-off” which will open a separate field for you to fill in with your desired end location. Once you have entered this information and your dates, you will be notified if this route is not available. If it is bookable, you’ll be shown the list of cars you can hire for the trip. What restrictions are there for one way rentals?
Different rules and restrictions apply depending on your pick up country, location and duration. From the UK to abroad, only passenger vehicles within and up to the ACRISS Code F*** are able to travel overseas. You can see each vehicles ACRISS Code during the car selection process. What fees are there for a one way car hire?
Due to the costs involved in transporting vehicles back to their original location, we may charge a one way fee with this car rental service. The price depends on how far you travel and which car model you choose to take but can usually be cheaper than public transportation, or the cost of driving back to the pick up location. All fees and charges, if any, will be shown directly before you book, so you won’t be shocked by any nasty surprises. There are some special cases where we offer free one way car hire within a country without a fee, in which case you will not be shown a charge during booking.
