How does the Car Gate work?

The Car Gate is an innovative, AI-supported vehicle inspection technology in the form of a vehicle-sized scanner with built-in sensors, cameras and a lighting system. 

Upon drive-through, the scanner automatically captures images. As a first step, these images are anonymized so that customers are not visible in the photos. After that, AI is used to identify new damages and to determine the type, position and severity of the damage. 

The damage documented on return is compared with the damage found on the vehicle when it was handed over. As part of the quality assurance, the photos are checked and verified. Only if damage is recognized as new damage, a claim may be proceeded by the SIXT damage department.


Will SIXT provide its customers with the photos of the exit and return? 

If SIXT discovers new damage while comparing return and exit photos, SIXT promptly notifies customers through an email. In this email, SIXT will provide the available photo documentation to ensure full transparency.


How does the Car Gate process the images in which customers could be seen?   

The Car Gate is fully GDPR-compliant. For all photos it captures, it is ensured that all persons inside the vehicle are immediately and irreversibly* made unidentifiable by blurring the windows or the faces.
