If you're thinking of booking car rental in the United Arab Emirates, make a note of some local peculiarities and adjust your driving accordingly:
- Flashing headlights: Drivers coming up from behind who flash headlights at you aren't being impatient. Ignoring speed limits is quite common, so just let them pass.
- Watch out for dust storms: After you rent a car in the United Arab Emirates, it's a pleasure to take a drive outside the cities, as the main rural roads are excellently surfaced. Look out for sudden dust storms, though. While not dangerous, the wind can affect your vehicle's stability and visibility.
- Choose the slow lane: You can relax more and take in the city views by driving in a so-called "slow lane", if there is one. The maximum speed on these is only 60 km/h (about 37 mph).
- Camels and goats: It's very common to encounter herds of camels or goats crossing the long, straight roads in the desert regions, so keep a sharp eye out for them.

It is only possible to take the car into neighbouring Oman. This must be requested ahead of time and a charge will incur.
