Winter is perhaps the best time to pay tribute at the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, which is just over an hour’s drive from Kraków. As it’s very cold, this is also when you can go sightseeing around the town with the climate control on, taking in landmarks like Wawel Cathedral, St Mary’s Basilica and the fascinating Museum of Pharmacy. There’s also the Stained Glass Workshop that offers guided tours in English.
