- Be aware of cyclists: Cycling is a popular sport in Greece, so respect cyclists when overtaking. You must slow down to overtake bicycles whilst also leaving ample room between yourself and the bike, normally at least 1.5 metres.
- Speed limits: Stick to the speed limit when using car rental in Greece to make sure you are not fined. In general, this is 50 km/h (30 mph) in towns and 90-110 km/h (56-68 mph) in the countryside. On motorways and dual carriageways, it’s typically 130 km/h (80 mph).
- Crossing borders: SIXT normally allows you to take your rental car over the border to neighbouring countries, such as Bulgaria or Albania. You must get written permission though and there is normally an additional cost for this.
- One-way streets: Due to the history of Greece, many of the streets are narrow and impose one-way systems. Make sure you stay on the right track by remaining alert and using a navigation system.

Good to know when renting in Greece
In Greece the minimum age is 21 years old for smaller vehicle classes, though be aware you must hold a valid licence for at least a year and charges apply.
Though it may be an option to have a separate drop-off branch within Greece, unfortunately you cannot take the car across international borders.
UK and EU licences are both accepted in Greece, it must be valid and held for at least a year and accompanied with a passport at the time of vehicle pickup.
Practically all debit and credit cards are accepted from leading companies, e.g. American Express, Mastercard, VISA and Diner’s Club. We do not accept prepaid cards in Greece.
Cars drive on the right-hand side of the road in Greece and seatbelts must always be worn while children under 10 may not ride in the front seat.
